I'm sure there is a right way to go about this. However, I'm not one to do things the right way so instead of the typical introductions about us, I'm just going to dive in and start. I'm sure introductions will come one day, but anyone reading this now (Hi Dad!) knows us and knows the backstory. So let's skip to the good stuff.
We were a nice, normal Army family. Stationed in Kansas and living the good life on post. We had it made. So of course, we decided to shake things up a bit and ask for an assignment to Korea. Yes, you read that right ... we actually asked to PCS to Korea. Crazy, I know.
There was some method to the madness. Greg had just finished his second year long deployment in the span of three years with another round of deployment already scheduled in the very near future. We had been thinking about an overseas tour (in my mind it was Germany or Italy ... maybe Hawaii) but Korea was offered and after a weekend to think it over. Korea was accepted. A command sponsorship was had within record time (seriously, like within ten days we had it all approved and a CS number given - amazing!) and movers scheduled.
A nondeployable two year tour (we can extend for an additional year for a total of three years) to Korea. Almost sounds like heaven ... doesn't it?
Now we sit .... in Texas. Land of Chick-Fil-A and all things right with the world. It's home to both of us and we are doing the family tour before we leave. Greg leaves on Monday, June 28th, the kids and I leave on August 2nd.
I plan on many future posts about finding housing off post, enrolling kids in schools, leaving my oldest behind in Kansas to attend college, etc. At least my parents will be interested in reading about it.
Here's my Korean phrase for the day:
Annyonghi kashipshio
which means -- Good night!
